Trauma-Informed (TI) Hatha Yoga is a science-based, person centered, healing focused approach to traditional Yoga that takes into account the neurological, biological, social, and spiritual effects of chronic stress and trauma and facilitates a Yoga practice that leads to increased positive embodiment, mindful awareness, self-regulation, improved health, and sense of increasing wellbeing as a whole human being.
Our 300/500 HR RYT Certification Course follows the Yoga Alliance (YA) guidelines for Advanced Yoga Teacher Training (YTT).

We begin YTT with an in-person gathering so that you carve out dedicated time to connect deeply with God and yourself while also cultivating meaningful and supportive relationships with your instructors, other Yoga enthusiasts, fellow Certified Yoga teachers, and teachers-in-training. This approach has proven to be both individually transformative and collectively enriching, creating a more dynamic learning environment from beginning to end.

About Our Course Structure:
Each session is designed to progressively build upon the last to create a holistic, dynamic, and transformative educational experience that prepares each student to thrive as a confident, skilled, and effective Christ-Centered, Trauma-Informed Yoga Instructor. This format has evolved out of our own experience certifying a diverse population of YTT students and by modeling evidence-based rhythms for education that have been proven to produce consistent results in Yoga and other health related certification programs.
Our aim is to engage the whole person throughout the learning process in order to empower our students to embody (body, mind, heart, and spirit) all that they are learning. Our vision is to support each student through their journey as they transition from teaching as a 200 HR RYT to leading as an Advanced 300/500 HR RYT Yoga teacher that guides others from a place of confidence and authenticity. This shift requires knowledge, modeling, practice, encouragement, and constructive feedback within a safe and non-judgemental learning community dedicated to discovery and growth as a lifelong adventure.
Bi-Weekly/Weekly YTT Sessions will be dedicated to progressively covering new course material with opportunities to put what you are learning into practice with instructor feedback.
Optional Q & A/Practicum/Make Up: Following each weekly online YTT session, for up to 30 minutes, students can remain online to ask additional questions and/or gain more practicum teaching experience. Note: This time can be cumulatively attended to make up YTT hours.
Practicum Workshops will be dedicated to peer teaching practice in small groups with instructor feedback and Q & A. This will be a chance for you to strengthen your own cueing skills as well as develop on your skills as a future YACEP educator.
Attendance Policy:
We understand that life can be unpredictable. At the same time, we are committed to honoring the accreditation guidelines of the Yoga Alliance and helping our students honor the investment and commitment they are making to themselves when they register for this course. Towards this end, a total of 6 classroom and/or workshop hours are allowed as excused absences. Absences beyond this amount must be pre-approved (except in the case of emergencies) by the lead instructor and make-up sessions completed before the final week of the course equal to the additional number of credit hours missed. If those hours exceed what can be made up by attending the optional time following each online session, private sessions with the lead instructor can be scheduled for make-up at a rate of $75/hour. And/or, 300/500 HR YTT students can submit written reflection work for up to 10 YTT credit hours.
Certification Requirements and Deadlines:
Most students can complete their certification within as little as 40 - 44 weeks. However, students have 12 months from the start of the course to complete all of the components of certification. For those that need more time, extension options are available for up to three years from their initial start date. (Please note: additional fees apply to extend deadlines.)
* NOTE: All online classroom and workshop sessions will be recorded for play-back to aid those who may miss a class session and enhance the learning experience. Students will have life-time access to all online course content and materials.

With the spike in chronic stress and trauma that all human beings are exposed to in our modern cultures, courses that follow the Yoga Alliance curriculum guidelines must include at least a cursory overview of what trauma is, it's ramifications, and key points to be aware of when teaching Yoga to help create a welcoming space for those who are healing from acute or chronic stress, or trauma.
This course will go well beyond a cursory overview of chronic stress and trauma.
In addition to being an E-200/500 RYT and approved Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider, Rev. Lenora Rousseau, the Course Developer and Lead Instructor, is also a Certified Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Coach, Certified Spiritual Director, Certified Breath Coach, and National Board Certified trained Behavioral Health and Wellness Coach.
This course integrates the essentials of traditional, Yoga Alliance approved Yoga teacher training with elements of Lenora's specialized education in the areas of applied psychology and behavioral science in order to create a robust and dynamic learning environment in which students gain a much deeper understanding regarding the impacts of chronic stress and trauma on the body, mind, and spirit, as well as the ways Yoga can specifically help to aid in the recovery process.
By the end of this course, you will understand how chronic distress and trauma impact the whole human being, how Yoga aids in the healing and recovery process, and how to effectively teach Yoga so that your classes and offerings create a safe and healing space where positive change and sustainable transformation can occur for all those you serve.
Absolutely not. This training is open to anyone from any faith background. You can be confident that we will honor your sacred worth, and there is no hidden agenda to change your faith-background or spiritual path.
Having said that, we want to be honest and upfront about the fact that the Yoga Chapel retreat sessions and subsequent Yoga classes offered during the online sessions will draw from Biblical passages and incorporate teachings from Jesus that center around themes such as love, grace, peace, kindness, service, joy, hope, forgiveness, healing, and transformation. We believe these themes are universal and touch upon the human experience in ways that cross the divide between religion, politics, cultural and economic barriers, and so on.
By attending this course, you will learn how to create contemplative Yoga classes that you can adapt to match your own faith or spirituality as you find your voice as a Trauma-Informed Certified Yoga Teacher.
As stated before, we are committed to being a welcoming and inclusive institution, and we expect our graduating students to uphold these same standards. We do not discriminate based on age, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, race, faith-tradition, ability, or cultural background. As a Christ-Centered organization and extension ministry of the FLUMC, our offerings seek to honor the rich traditions of Yoga while also incorporating Biblical themes that are universal and transformative.
We truly welcome students from all faith traditions and spiritual paths to join us for YTT and honor the seeds of truth that unite all human beings as children of God.
Rev. Lenora Rousseau is the Founder and Pastoral Director of the Pointe of Grace Project and serves in this role by extension as an Elder in the FLUMC.
